Peanut Butter & Homework Sandwiches
By Cook, Lisa Broadie

PB & J is almost as synonymous with school lunches as the ABCs.  So why not put the two together in a book?  That’s exactly what Lisa Cook did in Peanut Butter and Homework Sandwiches.  A hilarious book full of homework excuses and peanut butter and jelly.

- I’m motivated to revisit one of my manuscripts, one where Baby Hippo is making this most delicious snack.

There
By Fitzpatrick, Marie-Louise

How often do we tell our children, “Were almost there” or “We’ll be there soon” and actually think about what “there” means to them? Here this abstract thought is beautifully illustrated. There, a little girl questions her future while walking over rolling hills, climbing a ladder to the stars, and meeting a dragon. Little text, big meaning.

The Very Greedy Bee
By Smallman, Steve

I’m quick to size up a PC (politically correct) Rainbow Fish book, and this read is not one.  (Honey bees do live and work together in a complex hive system.)
“Mine!” is the very greedy bee who takes for himself, until he finds himself too full to fly home. Having to rely on the kindness of others, brings a change of heart. Bold cartoon artwork leaps off the page, and the bubbly insects and animals guarantees multiple reads.

- We stopped our reading here to feed our craving for peanut butter sandwiches. Peanut butter, bananas, and honey for mom, peanut butter, jelly, and gummy worms for the little reader.  YUM!
